Selfridge Air National Guard
Adopt-A-Military Family for Christmas

Selfridge Air National Guard (SANG) Base in Macomb County is the home of many military families who work hard to keep our country free. Unfortunately, the military has its share of servicemen who struggle to purchase gifts for their family during the Christmas holiday. SANG has two holiday programs that help these families with their needs.

In the first program, SANG identifies families that need assistance and matches them to "sponsors" who have applied to provide Christmas gifts for a family. Once approved, the sponsor is assigned a family whom they then “adopt” to buy gifts for the parents and children. The gifts are then taken to SANG base where they are dropped off for distribution to the family at Christmas.

The second program conducted by the Base is an event for the parents to choose stocking stuffers for their children from the many that are donated by various organizations and benefactors.

For the past four years, GMC Corvette Set has collected donations from its members to support both initiatives at SANG. Once the donations are collected, volunteers go shopping to purchase gifts our adopted military family as well as a variety of stocking stuffers.

Even though 2020 was hard for many people, GMC Corvette Set was again able to raise enough money to make a military family happy on Christmas Day. Our adopted family consisted of a mother and her fourteen-year-old son. With the money that was collected ($1,200), gifts were purchased for the family as well as $100 worth of stocking stuffers. Additionally, money was given to the SANG Family Assistance Program and a Vietnam Veteran who was recommended by one of the local charities.

Since the gift sponsors are not allowed to meet their adopted family, our only wish is that we could have been present to see the smiling faces when the gifts were opened.
